«DRILLING OF HORIZONTAL WELLS»
At the turn of the century, there was literally a revolution in the oil and gas industry in connection with the development of new methods of increasing the production of hydrocarbons in the development of deposits using the method of drilling production directional wells with horizontal shafts in productive formations, however, in terms of the technology of construction of such wells, drilling companies lagged far behind the plans for the implementation of these methods and primarily due to the lack of trained specialists, as well as ready-made technical and technological solutions and technical means of domestic production. There was a gap in the training of pedagogical personnel for this direction, and, consequently, in the specialists themselves. It has come to the point that professionals in this area have been trained by the enterprises themselves and by specialized industry research institutes and research centers, and there are very few of the latter in Russia
The purpose of the program is to train masters of a high professional level who are able to set and solve scientific and practical tasks based on the acquired knowledge about the basics of theory, technical means and features of performing basic technological operations in the construction of oil and gas wells with horizontal wells in productive formations. The study of the discipline ensures the development of intelligence, engineering and technical erudition, a high professional level of master’s degree and the formation of competencies demanded by society, both general cultural, professional, and civil, universal, moral qualities of the individual.
Objectives of the program focus
Teach a future master:
— to assess the impact of various technical and technological solutions on the process of construction of oil and gas wells with horizontal shafts in productive formations;
— apply advanced methods of designing the well construction process based on modern technical means and resource-saving technologies used in Russia and in the world;
— know the principles of selection and perform calculations of profiles of inclined and horizontal wells;
— substantiate and calculate rational designs of wells with horizontal shafts;
— perform the necessary calculations for the selection of drilling equipment, tools, drilling modes and well anchoring;
— to choose methods of opening, development and testing of productive horizons.
— have the skills to control the curvature of boreholes by the components of the bottom of the drill string and methods of their calculation;
— possess information about the achievements of science and technology, advanced domestic and foreign experience in the construction of oil and gas wells with horizontal shafts.

The basic principles of practice-modular and project-based training within the framework of the Program

- performance of specific tasks for research and design work. The work can be carried out both within one discipline and interdisciplinary, which is much more effective and interesting for all participants in the process.
- In the course of studying, creative associations of students in various fields are offered — geology, field development, well drilling, mathematical methods for solving research problems, programming for performing specific works, the topics of which are determined together with the project manager. No wonder they say: «Mind is good, but two is better!». And «brainstorming» often brings positive results as a method of teamwork. Students will have specific topics of SRW and FQR, ultimately distinguished by scientific novelty and practical significance.
Material and technical conditions for the implementation of the educational process
- Classroom classes (lectures, practical and laboratory work, consultations, etc.): lecture halls equipped with computers with installed software (Microsoft Office Professional Plus) and a projector for demonstration of presentations;
- Practical classes and independent educational activities of students: classrooms for practical classes, which, among other things, include computer classes with special software installed and Internet access for disciplines conducted in computer classes.
- Research work of students: classrooms for conducting research work by students (laboratory of drilling and grouting solutions), library Fund for independent work of students, computer classes of the educational building of the IUT.
